Republicans' True Colors
The Senate Republicans have shown their "true colors" (white only) by re-electing Mississippi's Trent Lott as minority whip, showing their obvious contempt for the black American population. Lott had previously proven to have an unrepentant racist consciousness by his comments at Strom Thurmond's birthday party four years ago. That rather stupid remark cost him his last such post. Do a quick google of Trent and see if you don't agree that leopards don't change their spots.

Dixie Chicks peck at Bush

VANCOUVER—Maverick U.S. country group the Dixie Chicks is still sniping at U.S. President George W. Bush, especially after his Republican party was hammered in mid-term elections.
The Texas band, which has felt a backlash at home for criticizing Bush's Iraq war policy, played a sold-out concert in Vancouver Wednesday night.
Lead singer Natalie Maines couldn't resist taking a shot at the humbled Bush administration as she praised her Vancouver fans.
"Either the beer is free or you're happy that Donald Rumsfeld resigned today," Maines said, referring to Bush's once powerful defence secretary.
It was one of several pokes at Bush by Maines.

Return of the Good Guys
Thinking back over the takeover of Congress by the Democrats last Tuesday is like settling into a nice warm bath. What a relief from the growing fear that this country was being taken over permanently by a group of criminals with no concern for morality, the Constitution, or the democratic principles this country was founded on, all for the sake of holding on to power. A lot of right-thinking American patriots were ready to escape to Canada. Personally I was thinking Scotland. I like Scotland. Of course I like America better, but I couldn't live with what those bastards were doing to our beloved country. And I feared that I would never again get to vote them out. What a relief that the true American patriots awoke.
Now let's hope the Democrats can start the process of turning away from despotism and back to democracy. There are already signs of it. Orange Coast College students have voted to forbid the forced pledging of allegiance to a flag, any flag. (I'm reminded of one of my favorite poems by e.e. cummings, "I Sing of Olaf," and the line: "I will not kiss your f.ing flag.") That is contrary to what a free people should have to do. South Dakotans have rejected the ban on abortions their legislatures voted in a few months ago. Don't you love it when Americans rebel and refuse to be corraled like sheep by moronic politicians?

Bush the War Criminal
Being a veteran, fortunately from an era of relative peace (1955-1963), I cannot put myself into a war veteran's mind. I can only honor these American warrior patriots' sacrifices, some of whom gave their ultimate. But when this or any country sends young men and women into the hell of war and there is no threat to our freedom or even our way of life, I become livid with frustration and rage. I raged against the Vietnam War and its 58,000 dead Americans and now this insane Iraq war with its 2,800 (and growing) dead. What maniac thought that dumping Saddam Hussein would somehow protect America. Bush and his neocons thought that or at least said they thought that, which proves that they were either insane or totally bereft of feelings for the men and women they asked to sacrifice for their political gain.
They are war criminals without a doubt and are probably responsible for more dead Iraqis than Saddam. They have slaughtered over 100,000 Iraqis, most of whom were harmless, impoverished people who's only crime was to be sitting on top of billions of barrels of oil.
In the name of the many dead and wounded American veterans, we must bring Bush and his maniacal advisors before Congress and demand they explain their treachery.
